Enduring Promise

The Indiana Daughters of the American Revolution are deeply honored that you are planning to attend the Enduring Promise Brick Dedication for Indiana’s World War II Missing in Action service members on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. on Monument Circle, in the center of Indianapolis and Indiana.

Thank you for making this journey in remembrance and respect for those who sacrificed so generations of Americans in the future would live in Freedom.

Since the ceremony takes place in the center of Indianapolis, it presents some logistical challenges related to access and parking, so please consider this in your planning.

The two maps included here show: Parking garages in the Monument Circle area and a close-up of Monument Circle with the 3 Check-in/Registration and Name Tag areas.

All streets leading into the Circle are pedestrian only (except East Market Street), as there are activities on the actual street surrounding the Circle during the summer. There will be four clean portable toilets located on the Southwest side of Monument Circle.

There are also parking meters available on the surrounding streets which take credit cards.

There will be 3 Registration & 3 Name tag areas (West, North, and East shown in black on the map.) “Drop Off” areas for guests are shown with a RED dot on the map.

All MIA families/guests should plan to check in at any of the 3 Registration areas.

DAR members, please stop by the Name Tag area on Meridian St only, to pick up a County name tag and add your chapter name, so MIA Families may connect with you.

Enduring Promise is a visual tangible commitment by Indiana Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) to honor and recognize Indiana’s WWII military service members who are Missing in Action (MIA) and their families.

To be missing is not to be forgotten.
With your help, we bring their
memory home.

The Indiana DAR project will place and dedicate personalized bricks honoring 1500 WWII Hoosiers who remain Missing in Action and unaccounted for.

This project is the last of a trilogy of Bricks of Honor placed and dedicated by Indiana DAR to Indiana’s Missing in Action. With maximum visibility the bricks are placed at the base of the Soldiers and Sailors Monument on Monument Circle, in the center of Indianapolis and Indiana.

Enduring Promise is an ambitious undertaking, at a projected cost of $150,000, and involves many components. Two key components are the promotion of the project and research locating families of the military service members being honored.

Bricks will bear the name of each MIA service member, their branch of service, rank, and date of loss.

Public Dedication

A public dedication ceremony is planned during America’s Semiquincentennial year, on September 2, 2026, the 81st anniversary of the signing of the Japanese surrender, ending WWII.

More than 1,500 Indiana service members went missing in action during World War II. Their stories remain etched in history; but now, we have the chance to etch their names in stone.

We invite you to be part of a lasting tribute: A memorial installation of engraved bricks, each honoring one of Indiana’s WWII MIAs.

This is more than a monument; it is a promise that their sacrifice will never be forgotten.

One brick at a time, to complete the Indiana Trilogy of Remembrance for Indiana’s MIAs from WWII, Korean War (completed in 2021), and Vietnam War (completed in 2019.)

Volunteer Your Time. Aid in the research to locate the family members of the missing in action.
